Ivy Mills, M.A., CRC, Resident in Counseling

I am a Resident in Counseling with a master’s degree from The George Washington University. My work is rooted in the belief that people create meaningful change when they feel seen, understood, and respected. My goal is to help clients slow down, reconnect with themselves, and move toward growth at a pace that feels safe and sustainable. I primarily integrate Person-Centered Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, approaches that allow us to explore your story with compassion, curiosity, and practical tools.

Journey that made me

My journey into this work is deeply personal. Losing two immediate family members and navigating family addiction as well as mental health during adolescence and early adulthood shaped me in profound ways. Through my own healing, supported by therapy, community, and self-reflection, I discovered a passion for walking alongside others as they make sense of their own experiences. This work is meaningful to me because I know what it’s like to feel overwhelmed, to grieve, and to rebuild.

Philosophy

My practice is grounded in systemic and relational healing. My undergraduate studies in Child Development and Family Studies strengthened my belief that our struggles don’t exist in isolation; instead, our relationships, environments, contexts, and identities shape them. I am passionate about providing care that honors the whole individual, centers your lived experience, and empowers you to understand both where you came from and where you want to go. My style is collaborative, warm, and deeply human. I believe therapy works best when you can show up as your full self, including the parts you’ve been taught to hide. Together, we will explore patterns, build emotional balance, and strengthen the inner resources that help you move toward the life you want and deserve.

I support clients navigating anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, life transitions, self-doubt, and the heavy weight of feeling like you have to hold everything together all the time. I also have experience working with individuals and families around disability acceptance, identity acceptance, ADHD, neurodivergence, perfectionism, and the emotional impact of addiction and mental health challenges within the family system. I work with adolescents, young adults, and adults of all ages. I also support families adjusting to disability diagnoses and the complex emotions that come with redefining expectations, roles, and identities.

Outside of work

Outside of the therapy room, I enjoy drawing, walking in nature, running, and exploring new cuisine. Movement and time outdoors have been meaningful pieces of my own healing, and they continue to ground me in my personal life.
